The Ananda Village Internship Program is a summer program designed to give you an opportunity to live and serve in our spiritual community. To be eligible for the program, you must first participate in the Karma Yoga program at the Expanding Light for 2-4 weeks, an experience that provides an introduction to the teachings of Ananda – Ananda Yoga and Meditation, The Art & Science of Raja Yoga, the Path of Kriya Yoga and most of all Nishtan Karma (selfless service). All of the above are practices that help cultivate the habit of putting God first. This is the essential spirit that Swami Kriyananda emphasized when he built Ananda Village. It continues to sustain Ananda as one of the oldest spiritual communities in the world.
The Ananda Village Internship Program offers a full immersion experience in Ananda Village. It was first established in 1970 when it was called the Apprenticeship Program, this program was later renamed to Living with Spirit and is now called the Ananda Village Internship program. The focus has always been the same, to offer an immersion into life in spiritual community and support spiritual growth.
This program goes far beyond your initial experience as a Karma Yogi at The Expanding Light Retreat. Whether picking fruits and vegetables at Ananda Farm, planting petunias at Crystal Hermitage, assisting in housing maintenance with Property Services or writing blog articles at Ananda Communications department, you will spend your days side by side with joyful, uplifted residents of the Village.
The program includes two daily service shifts, spiritual classes and daily practice of yoga and meditation, with an emphasis on Paramhansa Yogananda’s path of Kriya Yoga. Community living, selfless service and spiritual practice form the core of our program.
Interns also have time for reading and quiet reflection or relaxation; exploring Ananda’s 700 acres of scenic beauty; visiting the magnificent Yuba River or Nevada City; and enjoying treats and social time at Ananda’s little wholefoods deli & store, Master’s Market.
Interns start their day together with a group sadhana practice and share all meals together. They are assigned two service shifts a day in different parts of the community. Service shifts at the farm will start earlier at 7:00.
